Above is the trigram Kun (Earth), below is the trigram Zhen (Thunder). The metaphorical image of this hexagram represents the realization of renewed energy, represented by bursts of thunder over the sleeping earth. Therefore, Fu is associated with the winter solstice, the day after which the duration of daylight increases. Although the weather remains cold and harsh, seeds of warmth and light begin to germinate. The day of the winter solstice signifies that Yin retreats, Yang grows. The long and cold winter will only recede from this day, days will become longer and warmer. Nature prepares to welcome spring, though not immediately; the process of returning warmth and revitalizing nature has begun. Fu speaks of the beginning of rebirth, good news and favorable changes are on the way, it will get easier.
The imagery of the hexagram indicates that "merchants and travelers do not travel, rulers do not inspect their provinces." This is explained by the belief of the ancients that human activity is determined by the tendencies of natural processes. Therefore, key moments of the natural cycle (such as the days of summer and winter solstices) should be lived consciously, feeling the solemnity of the moment, turning inward and maintaining calm. Therefore, social activity was suspended on such days, so that the hustle and bustle of external movements did not bring disharmony to the sacred essence of what was happening.
The hexagram indicates that the situation is changing for the better future, so there is no need to rush events. The transformation of the old happens easily, and progressive movement continues without obstacles. This is a return to oneself and one's understanding of how to act further. The hexagram speaks of a good omen, meaning that the period of problems and misunderstanding has ended, and now an important moment of renewal and unveiling of one's potential for further movement has arrived.
